Voter Protection Issues
Understanding the New Voter Registration Status Law
In 2025, the Iowa legislature passed a bill that, if you are flagged as a potential non-citizen, you will be required to show proof of citizenship before going to the polls, at the polls, or after Voting Day if you vote a provisional ballot. Unfortunately, there is growing evidence that databases being used to confirm citizenship, including the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) database and the new federal SAVE database are prone to frequent errors. This means that eligible voters are being wrongly flagged. Know your voter registration status and how you protect your right to vote!

Addressing Potential Threats to Voting at the Polls
The current administration has openly announced that it will send ICE agents or troops to some polling places, and the Justice Department has recently raided election offices. Don’t give in to fear! Take comfort in knowing that many organizations are working together to protect our voters and our election system! There are ways you can help in those efforts.

Registration and Voting Issues
Overcoming Potential Barriers to Voting by Mail
Over the last few years, policy changes at the United States Postal Service (USPS) have resulted in delays and disruptions that interfere with voters’ ability to vote by mail (absentee ballots). These problems are likely to increase this election season as voting by mail is under further attack. Even if you haven’t had trouble in the past, don’t assume you’ll be fine now. Take action to protect your vote!

NEW Iowa Voter Registration Form | July 1, 2026
The State of Iowa introduced a new mandatory voter registration form which takes effect July 1, 2026. If you are already registered there is nothing to do. If you register July 1, 2026 or after, you must use the new Iowa Voter Registration Form.
